The Digital Evidence Manager (DEM) is SoleraTec's Phoenix DEM search application to find stored, digital evidence on a Vault and then export it.
The Digital Evidence Manager addresses the management and storage challenges that the law enforcement and public safety industries face. It provides the ability to manage, protect, search, retrieve, and collaborate on digital evidence files. See Introduction for more information.
The Digital Evidence Manager includes extensive search options to cover metadata, including dates, media name, or asset type, just to name a few. After searching for and retrieving files, regardless of where they are stored (online, near-line, or offline), you can easily export the files to other tools and locations.
When searching for videos as digital evidence, the Digital Evidence Manager uses a low resolution proxy video (a fraction of the size of the original) as the primary video footage received. This low resolution proxy file is always paired with its original source video, regardless of where the video is stored.
In order to have the low resolution proxy video and thumbnail files available, be sure to enable the generation of them in Processing Tab of Body Worn Cameras tab.
The Digital Evidence Manager window features two main tabs at the top of the application. This allows you to switch between the search or export functionality.
|•||Search - Comprised of a Search Criteria pane to find digital evidence files, a Search Results pane to select specific files from the search video to in a Media Viewer, and an Export Queue pane to view a list of files to export.|
|•||Export - Includes an Export Job Configuration pane and a Job Status pane to use when you are ready to export files found.|
Workflow - Digital Evidence Manager
In order to use the Digital Evidence Manager, assets must be stored in a Vault and the Vault needs to be running. It is necessary to have set up a Target and Process policy to move video into a Vault. For more information regarding these requirements, see Add Vaults.
The following describes working through the Digital Evidence Manager:
|1.||From your suite of product applications, open the Digital Evidence Manager application (DigitalEvidenceManager.exe). For further explanation of how to launch applications using different operating systems, see Getting Started.|
|2.||The application default opens to the Search tab. Enter search criteria and click the Search button when done in order to begin the search. See Search and Export.|
|3.||When the search is complete, the results will be displayed in the Search Results pane.|
|4.||Double-click a video thumbnail to open a low resolution proxy video in the Media Viewer. Or right-click on a video clip to choose from an array of useful options.|
|5.||Use the Media Viewer to review and play the video, and clip portions of the video to export. Click the Export button to send video clips to the Export Queue.|
|•||The option to create log entries is available at this point.|
|6.||Select the Digital Evidence Manager Export tab to set your Export Job Configuration options. Here, you determine what system to export to, where to save files, and other options. Click Start Export. Files in the Export Queue are exported all at once. See Export Digital Evidence.|
